Progress in the UMI on novel materials for solar cells
In an effort to understand the growth mechanics and improve the material quality of InGaN alloys, a key material in light-emitting diodes (LEDs), laser diodes (LDs), and solar cells, the team of Dr. Ougazzaden in collaboration with Gilles Patriache’s team ( LPN-CNRS) developed a new method that quantifies the chemical information “coded” in HAADF-STEM images and produces precise mappings of the chemical composition of compound semiconductor alloys at the nanometer scale.
Fears and risks of innovation
In May 26, 2011, the Parliamentary Office for the Evaluation of Scientific and Technological Choices (OPECST) organized a a public hearing around a study related to future innovations. At this event, Professor Abdallah Ougazzaden, Director of the GT-CNRS UMI, discussed the place of nanotechnologies and the precautions that should be taken before using.
