Non-linear Optics and Dynamics: The research in nonlinear optics and dynamics at the UMI focuses on cutting- edge scientific developments in the fields of nonlinear optics and of the nonlinear dynamics of optical systems.
Smart Materials: Research within this theme consists of activities in the development of materials and nanostructures for photonic and electronic applications, material by design, acoustic- and terahertz-based non-destructive characterization.
Computer Science: Research is conducted in situated cognition and robotics in conjunction with the Georgia Tech College of Computing, and network information systems.
The goal is to establish new basic technologies in design, processing, characterization, and modeling. Ultimately, the results should have a number of high-tech industrial applications in the aeronautic, automobile, biomedical, and energy sectors.
